Leave No Trace Master Educator (ORM Certification Course)

This course provides participants with a comprehensive overview of Leave No Trace skills and ethics through practical application in a field-based setting. It is run as a combination of a one-day classroom component, three-day/two-night field component and one-day community outreach opportunity. Students will practice Leave No Trace teaching strategies by delivering a planned lesson. The Master Educator course prepares students to deliver two-day Leave No Trace Trainer courses and one-day or shorter Awareness Workshops. Course completion results in Master Educator registration with the Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics, a Leave No Trace Master Educator certificate, and a one-year Leave No Trace membership.

Conducted by the Outdoor Recreation Management program at Lees-McRae College.

Length: 5 days (40 hours)

Recommended for: Backcountry guides, canoe trip leaders, private expedition groups, college/university outdoor education programs, hiking club trip leaders, park and forest rangers and wilderness therapeutic programs.

Cost: 
$525 – Alumni, faculty and staff (Lees-McRae)
$625 – Community
(A $250 non-refundable deposit will be collected at time of registration.  All remaining course fees will be collected by credit/debit card on the first day of the event.)

Lodging: 
$15/night – Residence Hall
$50/night – Guest House
(All lodging fees will be collected by credit/debit card on the first day of the event.)

Note: Backcountry camping will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday night.

Prerequisites: None

Certification Received: Leave No Trace Master Educator. This is a lifetime certification.
