Expedition Baja: Dec. 29, 2019–Jan. 11, 2020
Join the Outdoor Recreation Management and Biology programs for a Baja Expedition. Sail, surf, stand-up paddle board, scuba dive, sea kayak, hike, snorkel with whale sharks and sea lions, assist with conservation of sea turtles, and volunteer with whale shark research in Mexico’s Baja California Sur.
This interdisciplinary course will explore aspects of the unique biodiversity of the California and Mexico region combined with technical ocean skills. The course culminates in a two-week travel experience in December 2019–January 2020 (after Christmas) to the following locations:
- San Jose del Cabo
- Todos Santos
- Cerritos Beach
- Tortugueros Las Playitas
- La Laguma Biosphere Reserve
- La Paz
- Espiritu Santo
- Isla San Francisco
- Cabo Pumo
Certifications Received:
- PADA Scuba – Open Water Diver
- American Sailing Association (ASA) – Basic Keelboat, Coastal Cruising, and Bareboat Skipper
Cost: $250 deposit to reserve your spot on the expedition
(Total trip cost is TBD but is estimated at $3,000. Total cost will include flight, ground transportation, park entry, camping, activities, and food. This deposit is included in the trip cost.)
Dates: The class will meet two days per week for the fall 2019 semester and the expedition will take place in December 2019/January 2020.
