Vermont Winter Multi-Sport Expedition

Join the Outdoor Recreation Management for a multi-sport winter expedition to Vermont over winter break where we’ll backcountry ski, snowshoe, inbound snowboard, ice climb, fat tire bike, and winter camp. You’ll also increase your knowledge of winter-specific wilderness medicine and ski patrol skills, avalanche mitigation, and winter survival.

11-day expedition from Dec. 27, 2020–Jan. 8, 2021 

Recommended for Outdoor Recreation Management, Ski Industry Business and Instruction, and Wilderness Medicine majors and minors.

Sample Itinerary: This itinerary is subject to change.

Day 1: Drive to Vermont
Days 2–4: Weather dependent we’ll ice climb, cross country ski, or backcountry ski. We’ll be winter camping at Smuggler’s Notch State Park.
Day 5: Full day skiing/snowboarding at Stowe Resort. Yurt lodging.
Day 6: Fat tire mountain biking on single track at Ranch Camp. Yurt lodging.
Day 7: Weather dependent we’ll ice climb, cross country ski, or backcountry ski. Then hike to Sterling and lodge in nearby Smuggler’s Notch Resort.
Day 8: Meet with Ski Patrol and Smuggler’s Notch Resort and ski/ride the resort. Lodging near the resort.
Day 9: Weather dependent we’ll ice climb, cross country ski, or backcountry ski. Then meet with Stowe Mountain Rescue Director and lodge at Round Hearth ski dorm.
Day 10: Weather dependent we’ll ice climb, cross country ski, or backcountry ski. Lodge at Round Hearth ski dorm.
Day 11: Drive back to Lees-McRae College
